What are you reading Jolabokaflod? By Stella (c)September2021

I know it is too early to ask. I think this is a better title than popular song “What are you doing New year’s eve?” I just recently read about Icelandic tradition doing nothing else than reading book on Christmas’s Eve and drinking chocolate. Jolabokaflod means Christmas Book flood. Jolabokaflod started in 1944 during World War II, when paper was one of the few things not rationed in Iceland. Icelanders gave books as gifts while other commodities were in short supply.

I am not from Iceland, but I am in love with this tradition. I’ll be probably choosing to read Agatha Christie, Neil Gaiman or Terry Pratchett during holiday, drinking my favorite beverage chocolate (maybe I love to add it with Minttu), or ginger herbal drink (it is bandrek from Indonesia), or Glühwein or even just tea. This drawing is how I imagine myself on Jolabokaflod.

so, what are you reading Jolabokaflod?
